What's it all about: Cinderella and the Pirates

What's it all about?

Cinderella and the Pirates is a brand new pantomime based on two classic tales. Meet Cinderella, who works like a slave for her two older sisters. However, her luck changes when her fairy godmother gives her a ballgown and Cinderella meets... a pirate. Not just any pirate. It's Frederic (without a 'K') who is the apprentice and surrogate-son of the evil Pirate King! Comedy ensues as the Pirate King tries to split these two star-crossed lovers apart for his own selfish intentions.

Is there music?

Absolutely. This pantomime is chock-full of your favourite songs by Meghan Trainor, Whitney Houston, Queen and more, backed by a live band. The show will have you singing along with top hits and surprise you with some lyric changes.

Is the show family friendly?

This show is most definitely family friendly - in fact it's family focused. Cinderella and the Pirates keeps kids and adults entertained, with humour that will appeal to every generation. In British panto style, audiences are encouraged to 'boo' and 'hiss' at the villain, cheer for the heroes, and warn them that 'it's behind you'.

When is the show on?

We've specially scheduled this show to coinside with the October school holidays. This gives you the best chance to see the show with your entire family at one of the matinee or evening performances.

How can I get involved?

We're always looking for new talent to make our show the best it can be. Information Night is a great chance to hear all about the show and meet your future peers. Whether you're interested in acting onstage, working behind the scenes, being part of the live band or helping out with costumes and props, we'd love to see you at Information Night. Click here for details.

Do I have to be an acting/singing/dancing superstar to be involved?

We'd love it if you were, but NO you do not have to be. We will be holding auditions for every role, including the ensemble. Some roles require singing. Some require dancing. Some require you to be able to tell a good joke. For every role we are looking for people who are versatile and willing to try new things. Regardless of your acting, singing or dancing ability, we'd love to see you at auditions.

What roles are available?

Click here for character audition information.
There are 8 principal roles, 1 cameo role and a medium sized ensemble. We're looking for enthusiastic people aged 7 to 77 to fill our cast. Character descriptions are listed in the audition information, but here's a quick run down: Cinderella (Female lead), Frederic (Male lead), Pirate King (Villain), Ruthie (Dame), Sam (Comedic sidekick), Khloe & Kourtney (Cinderella's sisters) and Major-General Stanley (Cinderella's father). In the spirit of pantomime, cross-dressing is completely acceptable (hence the dame), so we will audition any gender for any role.

If I am part of the show, will it cost me?

The only finance we require is that you become a member of SCCAS, which is $20. What we will expect from you is your time. You will be required to attend weekly rehearsals (more closer to performances). We expect you to be punctual and to prioritise rehearsals above other activities.

When are rehearsals?

Rehearsals begin 16 July 2017. Standard rehearsals are 7:30pm-10:00pm on Wednesday and Friday nights, and selected Sunday afternoons, 2:00pm-5:00pm. Ensemble cast, musicians and crew will only be required at selected rehearsals (Fridays and some Sundays) until September. Additional rehearsals may be called closer to the production.

I want to be involved, but not on stage...

If you don't want to be onstage, there are plenty of roles to fill offstage in our crew. We need band members, stage hands, make-up artists, prop creators, costume makers, set painters and more. The best way to get involved is to come to our Information Night, or drop us an email.
